Winter Beauty Essentials
With the winter weather upon us, it can wreak havoc on our skin and hair. They just seem to dry completely out and look all out of sorts at times! Another thing about winter is that there are just certain colors that scream winter. Red is one of them for me. When I wear it, it reminds me of Christmas and then I might carry it into Valentine’s Day. Even though you can wear red all year long, there is just something about the winter that makes it feel like the most appropriate color to wear. There are certain beauty essentials I like to keep in my winter arsenal. These are necessary to survive, in my book, and help with the winter blahs!
My hair is naturally dry. Now let’s add to that the dry air of winter, and it becomes even drier. It is so dry you can tell just by looking at it. One thing I like to do I that I like to use a good hair mask. I like to find one that has some good moisturizing properties. I put it on my hair and I leave it on extra long. I might even get a towel to wrap it in and trap in the heat. The two I have linked above are both great and help with that winter hair. 1 – is a steal from OGX and 2 – is a splurge one from Kerastase.
Red nails are so essential during the winter months. I love a pop of red for the Christmas season. I tend to wear it the entire season, change it for about a month and then around Valentine’s Day I revisit the red. I especially like a good glossy color. 3 – is my steal from Wet and Wild and 4 – is my splurge from OPI.
Let’s not forget about a good red lip. I love red lipstick and will wear it all year round. However, I still believe it is the ultimate accessory for the winter months. I am into a more matte color and found these two. Now before you tell me you could never wear red lipstick, yes you can! Everyone has a red lipstick that is their color. The two I have linked are a more blue-red, however, there are other reds out there so don’t be afraid to experiment. 5 – is my splurge from Estee Lauder and 6 – is my steal from NYX.
I do believe my skin runs a close second to my hair in showing winter dryness. It gets so dry and scaly. One thing I have discovered is a good hydration creme or serum. A serum, of course, is lighter and is typically used on your face and chest, while the creme is more for your body. These hydration formulas contain hyaluronic acid which also aids in the plumping of the skin. Dehydrated skin can be looked at like a dried up piece of fruit. The lack of hydration causes the skin to shrivel. When a hydration formula is applied, it can provide moisture and decrease the look of those wrinkles caused by dry skin. 7 – is my favorite steal for the face and 8 – is my favorite steal for the body, both are from Neutrogena, while 9 – is my splurge from Borghese.
Be sure to add these great winter beauty essentials into your arsenal. They are great for helping the hair and skin recover from the dry, cool weather. They give them life! The reds nail polish and lip color help to give brightness and boldness, they add that pop of color that brings life to the dreary winter months. Remember, everyone has a red shade, so don’t be afraid of it!
