The Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Animal Print

One thing I love is animal print. I love to accessorize with it and to mix and match it with different pieces of clothing in my closet. However, there are do’s and don’ts to wearing animal print, especially if you want to wear it tastefully. Let’s look at some of these little rules that come with wearing animal print.
- Don’t overload! Basically what this means is that you do not want to wear an outfit that is all animal print, paired with animal print accessories. That is just too much! I know that we see high fashion do this, but in our everyday world, we are not high fashion. It is best to wear one piece of animal print, such as this scarf or sweater and then pair it with a solid color outfit. This is the best way to accentuate the animal print and not be on overload!
- Do not mix prints! This kind of goes with overload, except you really don’t want to wear different prints together. Let’s say you have a great pair of snakeskin pants and a fantastic leopard print shirt, are you going to wear these together?? No!!! That would just no look good. Pick one print and stick with it for the outfit you are going to wear.
- Do pick classic pieces! I have had the booties in these pics for about three years now. They are just so classic and I do not have to worry about them going out of style. The same with the bag I have. There are so many different classic pieces you can get to add to your wardrobe. Here is a pair of snakeskin pants. How will I style these? I will probably either do a neutral or pick a color like this hot pink top and shoes to accent them with. That is one thing about animal print, you can use all kinds of different colors with them and not ruin the look.
- Do wear solids and use animal print accessories. In these pictures, you can see that I have chosen a great solid shirt dress. I have then added my animal print accessories to give it a different look. This to me is the best way to style your animal print accessories. When they are put with neutral outfits, they are the perfect accent. Here I have added a bag and booties, which are great with the black dress. You can even add them to a brighter colored outfit, such as a red dress with animal print heels and a smaller animal print clutch.
Always remember that too much of anything is not a good thing! That is the same way with animal print. I remember a time when animal print was not looked at in the best way. It was thought of as a print that just did not have a lot of class with it. I still think it can be this way if not worn correctly. If worn correctly, it can be the best addition to your wardrobe.
