Self Care Activities to get Balanced

Goodnight! I wish I were saying this as I sit here at 8:00 at night. I am just so exhausted! You see, when this whole entire COVID thing started, most people were either out of work, on furlough, or just kind of having a chill time with work while everything was getting figured out. I would look in envy on social media as people boasted about their home improvement projects and just looked so relaxed and refreshed. I kept thinking that would happen to me and it never did.

Why didn’t it happen for me? I mainly work from home. I teach several online courses, both at the high school and college levels. So since I am already online, there was no need for any adjustments, work went on as usual and after a few weeks, the courses on the college level started growing in their enrollments, which meant more classes for me.

It will not stay this way forever, flashback to 2010, and the last economic disaster which is how I got my start in this field in the first place, so I plan on doing whatever I can to earn this money right now and to enjoy it.

Back to why I am so tired. I kept thinking it would change. I kept watching everyone else and thinking, “surely things are going to slow down for me.” I would stay up too late and then work all day long and then when I woke up, I would do it all over again. I finally decided it was time for some self-care. Even though I was busy with work, there were other areas of my life that slowed down, so it was time to find ways to take advantage of that free time. No rushing around getting ready for meetings, since everything was on hold, it didn’t matter.

I really looked at my life and why I was so tired and decided to use this time to take care of myself. On precovid days, I was working myself into oblivion, squeezing in a workout, and then heading to a meeting, only to rush home, work on my blog and get in bed and maybe get five hours of sleep. With this pandemic, yes I had to work, but there was no rushing for the first time in forever. I was able to slow down a little.

I began to eat better. While everyone else was stress eating, I was on a healthy eating binge. I walked my dog every day. The weather seemed to be so pleasant during that time that I could use my lunch to walk him. We walked between 2-3 miles every single day. I was getting in bed at a decent hour and sleeping. And let me mention, I was also taking my vitamins!

I felt great! Sure, I still have those times when I look at the half-completed DIY projects, which I do plan on tackling and completing soon! However, I also feel like I am on a much better track with my life! I got closer to God and just feel so good!

While I didn’t have an early summer break and did not get my house completely redone, I did have time to redo my body, soul, and spirit. I had time to find myself and feel myself and hopefully, I am on the way to doing just that much better!

I know you might not know where to start with this whole self-care thing. So, below is a checklist of items to look at so that you too can start to practice a little self-care in your life!
