Where to Shop When you are Over 40!

Where to shop over 40

One of the number one questions I get is, “Where do you shop when you are over 40?”. When you hit 40, it is kind of a weird time, your body is doing crazy things, like expanding without reason, and most of the clothes look matronly or way too young. I found some great places that I love to shop at and I wanted to share them with you!

Anthropologie

I love Anthropologie. It is like a boho-chic shopping mall. There are all different designers who are with Anthropologie. While there are some items that are younger-looking, there is a large number that can be worn at the over 40 age. Be sure to read sizing charts for the things you like, since it has different designers, the sizes run differently.

Banana Republic

Banana Republic is more of a classic look. The clothes are trendy and timeless, yet they look age-appropriate. They are the perfect essentials to add to your wardrobe. These clothes are more tailored, they fit true to size.

Boden

Boden is a clothing company out of England. It is mainly known for its bright colors and whimsical looks. Timeless linen looks and they have the best customer service! Everything fits true to size.

Chicos

Chicos is the perfect place for women over 40. The clothes are trendy and stylish and totally age-appropriate. Chicos is more of a sophisticated look and has some different sizing, so be sure to read sizing charts. However, when you find the size that is yours, these items fit very true to size.

J Crew

J Crew is a classic look. I love their catalog, remember when you used to get them and you loved to just look through them and see the new things they had. They are more of a preppy look and most of the clothes are more tailored fits. There are a number of elastic-waisted pants and tie waist pants that are fun. Great tops, cute sweaters, and fun dresses. J Crew also has shoes and jewelry and bags that can make any outfit look like a million bucks. J Crew Factory has some of the J Crew items at a lower price, so be sure to look there as well. J Crew has a very true size fit.

Old Navy

Old Navy is where I like to go and get essentials. You can get great tee shirt dresses here, jeggings, and even fun tops. I usually have to go online to get the items. Get on their email list for new releases and they always have sales. Items fit true to size.

Ann Taylor

Ann Taylor is what the name sounds like, it is tailored clothing. However, they also have some fun dresses that are on-trend, yet look mature and sophisticated. From time to time, they have the cutest handbags and fun shoes! Check them weekly for great sales. They fit true to size.

Loft

Loft is the Ann Taylor for younger girls. The styles are more casual and fun. Loft is always having sales so you can get the clothes at great prices. They can be fun to add to your wardrobe. They have the best curvy jeans ever! Do you know how skinny jeans can give you a muffin top? Well, when you get the curvy ones, there is room in the waist and hips, no muffin tops! Clothes can run large, so even though I love to shop online, it can be hard.

Talbots

Talbots gets a bad wrap. People think of it as clothing for the stuffy Congressman’s wife. Think cardigans and button-ups. However, they have items that are perfect to add to your wardrobe. Think simple styles and colors that are timeless. I love their holiday collections full of lace and tartan plaids. Talbots fits true to size.

Tuckernuck

I discovered Tuckernuck one night and I fell in love. The styles are timeless and the colors are fun. I love all of it, the dresses, tops, and pants. Great accessories and shoes. Tuckernuck is pricey, but they also have items that are more affordable, and good sales can help as well. If you see something that you like and it is on the lower end, you better get it, because that is the stuff that sells super fast! Tuckernuck has clothing from different brands, so sizing is different for each item.

I hope this helps! We all want to look fashionable and we want to add trends to our wardrobe. But let’s face it, no one wants to see a 45-year-old running around in a mini skirt! When you are over 40, you want to know the best places to get age-appropriate clothes, so I hope this helps!

Let me know some of the places you like to shop!

Later!
