Interview Tips to Get you Hired
When you are going to interview for a job, whether it is virtual or in person, it is a nerve-wracking experience, especially if you really want the job. It is almost going on a date with your biggest crush! You want your outfit to be just right. You want to say the right things. You do not want to sound nervous or dorky or anything like that.
I remember one time I did an interview. Now, thank goodness it was not for a job. It was for a group on campus when I was in college. When I got out, I looked in the mirror and my teeth were covered in lipstick! I mean, I could die! That was so embarrassing! Now, I know there are worst things that could happen, but you never want that to be one of them.
So, how do you have a successful interview? Well, let’s look at a few that will help you to land that job!
1 – Practice to be prepared. There are always those questions that are asked in all interviews, so practicing those answers will definitely help. You can also google example questions and practice those also. That will help you to be calm and get an answer prepared.
2 – Research the company. In most interviews, not all, you will get the question, “why do you want to work here” or “what do you know about the company”. You never want to stumble over either of those questions. Be sure that you do your research and have good knowledge to bring to your answers
3 – Be sure to pick out your interview outfit the night before. Anything and I mean anything, can happen when you wait until the last minute to get ready for your interview. Think ripped pants, too tight skirt, stain on a shirt, etc. You do not want that to be you. That can cause you to run late and just ruin your interview altogether.
4 -Be on time. Go ahead and map out the directions so that you know how to get there. Then leave earlier than you normally would. It is better to be early than late. Being late can cost you the job and you do not want that to happen!
5 – Try to stay calm. I know it can be hard when you are trying to make a good impression and land the job you have been dreaming of. However, being nervous can show in different ways and you don’t want that to happen. You need to do relaxation techniques and remember that the person doing the interviewing is just a normal person like you!
6 – Do something for them to remember you by. My suggestion is a thank you note. That is the number one thing to do. You can have it ready and drop it in the mail right after. Also, have some great questions to ask in the end. When you have good questions to ask, that shows you have done your homework and it also shows your interest in the position.
Having a job interview can be both exciting and stressful. There are things you can do to be prepared and to help stay calm. You need to remember that you have a lot to offer and keep that attitude. As long as you are prepared and confident, you will do great!
Later!
