Healthy Halloween Dog Treats!!
It is that time of year. The time of year when candy is flowing and there are not too many choices for our pets. Now, we cannot leave them out, can we?? I decided that my dogs needed a Halloween treat and I came up with these healthy ones so that they can enjoy the holiday also.
Now, here is the thing, my little dog, London, is kind of a special needs dog. He is slow to eat and kind of picky and when I give the dogs treats, I have to monitor him and be sure that the big dog, Winston, does not snatch up his treats. So, I have to be selective with what I give him and these treats were a hit! The above picture was the only one I was able to get with Winston and the treat in the same pic, because he was ready to devour it. Oh, the struggles!!!
Anyway, I like to make healthier treats for my fur baby’s and I found this recipe and gave it a little twist for the holiday. I also found an icing mix for dog treats, but I did not have the time to mix it up and decorate these treats, so I will save that for another holiday!
These halloween treats only took a few minutes to whip up and then I popped them in the oven. They are thicker here than the recipe called for. This means that the treats are more cake-like. This is fine because my pups will still gobble them up. If you want a crunchier treat, I would roll out the dough and just put a thin layer of it into the pan.
Here is the recipe:
1 C. smooth peanut butter
2 C. whole wheat flour
1 T. molasses
1 T. baking powder
1 C. coconut milk
– Preheat oven to 350 degrees
– Put all ingredients into a bowl and with a mixer, mix completely on medium speed
– Put into molds and bake for 17-20 minutes
– Let cool and let the pups enjoy!
My pups thoroughly enjoyed these and they will keep a few days, which is plenty for my big Winston to enjoy! Let us not forget that the holidays are not just for humans, our fur baby’s can enjoy them too. Below are the costumes I had for my dogs. I dressed London up like an Ewok. He hated it!!! He just does not like any clothes or anything like that to be put on him. I could not find a costume for my larger dog, Winston. He is 120 pounds and there was nothing available for a dog that large. I bought these little bandanas for a large dog and I had to tie two together to properly fit him!!! I hope that everyone has a fun Halloween and get ready for Christmas, because it will be here tomorrow!
