I remember making a vision board and on it was working from home. I was burned out on commutes and going to work and dealing with office drama. I had landed my first adjunct instructor position and was determined this would be my full time. Fast forward three years and it became my reality.

I lucked up because I can teach Medical Billing and Coding and when the economy tanked about 12 years ago, students were enrolling in these programs left and right and the demand for instructors was high. So I was able to jump right in and I have been working from home ever since.

When I first started working from home, I thought I would just sit in my bed or on the couch and work. Well, that was okay for a little while, but I soon realized I need a dedicated home office. I had a spare room that I converted to an office and went out and bought all of the necessary supplies to make my office productive working space. You cannot, and I repeat, cannot just sit at your kitchen table. That might be okay for a start, but you will see, you need a dedicated space, so be sure to start setting that up and figuring that out!

Working from home is great. I cannot imagine my life working outside of the home. I have flexibility, no morning commute, and I can work in athleisure. It is the best!
