Morning Skincare Routine for over 40 Skin
I used to have very dry skin when I was younger. Then I went through puberty at 25 and my skin was oily and I had adult acne. Now that I have hit 40, my skin has become extremely dry again, which is typical of 40-year-old skin. Dry skin is not only uncomfortable, but it shows more signs of aging. When the skin is dry, it causes the skin to pull and the wrinkles begin to show up. Ugh!!!
Another sign of over 40 skin are lines such as nasolabial folds become more prominent. All of that side sleeping, using your hand as a prop and resting B*&ch face cause these to show up even more and they become deeper each year. The blood flow begins to decrease, which diminishes the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the skin. This causes over 40 skin to look aged due to the fact that dead skin cells remain on the surface much longer.
I have begun to focus my skincare on repair and protection. I like to use products that help provide moisture, those that protect against skin damage from the sun and anything with retinol to stimulate the formation of new collagen fibers and revitalize sluggish skin cells.
With this being said, I have decided to share my skincare routine with you:
First off, I like to cleanse my skin with a great cleanser. My favorite one is Cetaphil. It is such a classic cleanser, affordable, and gets my skin squeaky clean without drying it out.
I then like to apply a good serum that protects against wrinkles. I have several shown above here. I alternate them each day because let’s face it, I am a skincare junkie. I like to try products for a couple of days and then try another one. I have the one from Exuviance listed here and I like it because not only does it protect against wrinkles, but it also helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and contains vitamin C, which helps to create a glowing appearance of the skin.
The serum from Peter Thomas Roth is a good one. It helps to decrease the look of lines and wrinkles in this leave-on formula. I also use vitamin C serum when I use this one. I like the vitamin C to help with the glowing on my skin.
The newest one that I use is Serucell. This is designed to work on the skin from the inside out. It helps to give skin its elasticity, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and helps with the production of collagen.
Eye cream is a must-have for any woman over the age of 30. So if you are over 40, you desperately need a good eye cream. I love this one from Estee Lauder. It helps to plump up the skin and help it to look more awake and radiant.
Lastly, a good moisturizer is a perfect way to end your skincare routine. It is best if it contains a good SPF and then you kill two birds with one stone. You must always protect your skin from the sun. The very reason you have wrinkles and dark spots are due to sun exposure and not protecting your skin. It is not too late to work on your skin, so be sure to protect it with the perfect moisturizer that contains sunscreen.
I know this is a lot, but let’s face it, you are over 40 and need all of the help you can get! You might see the signs of aging, but you don’t have to live with them. You can start now and you can work on making your skin look the best and healthiest ever!
