How to not Gain Weight while Working from Home
You did it! You got an opportunity to work from home. You can roll out of bed and walk to your home office. No need to worry about paying exorbitant amounts of money for gas or having to worry about a work dress code. Your dress code now consists of yoga pants and occasionally your pj’s!! You are working from home!!!! As exciting as this is, things are about to change. And you don’t want one of those changes to be your waistline!
When I first started working from home. I was excited about all of the above and then some. I was ready to roll out of bed and not worry about wearing office apparel. I was ready to walk about two feet to my home office versus having to get in my car and plan on leaving several minutes before my job started. Not to mention getting stuck in traffic. I did not have to worry anymore about the petty coworkers that were always there to stir up trouble. However, I was not ready for the weight that managed to find its way to my behind.
The first couple of days it was an adjustment. I seemed to have quite a few breaks in the day. I was actually a little bored to start with. That boredom took me on walks straight down the hall and into the kitchen. I would find myself in the cabinets and in the refrigerator eating anything I could get my hands on. Then came the moment of truth. You see, I had been wearing my athleisure all day long. You know, the stretchy pants! When it finally came time for me to put on regular clothes, there was a surprise. They did not quite fit so well. Ugh!!!! Now I was determined to get this weight off and figure out a way to keep it off while I worked from home.
The biggest thing I did was get into a routine. My routine was that I would wake up and do my morning routine like before I started working from home. After my routine was done, I would head to my office to get my day started. I had my tasks before me and I would work to complete them. I even squeezed in some workouts during the day. Cooler weather brought workouts in the afternoon and warmer weather had workouts earlier in the day.
I then decided that with the routine, came an eating routine. I would be sure that I only ate at specific times during the day and made sure that I had healthier options in my reach. I also decided to get my 10,000 steps in each day. I got a FitBit and instead of sitting during the day and eating, I would move.
Between getting into a daily routine, having better food on hand, working out and just getting moving in general, I was able to fit back into my regular clothes! I was relieved because as much as I love wearing athleisure, I also love wearing my regular clothes as well.
It can be hard when you first get started working from home. Take it from me, you definitely want to get on a schedule and you want to be more aware of things going on around you. Yes, wearing pj’s or athleisure is great, but nothing tells the truth more than your skinny jeans! Be sure to try those on every now and then to avoid any surprises!!!
