Statement Earrings

I am an 80’s child, so I have been wearing statement earrings since I can remember. Only, they were not called statement earrings back in the 80’s, they were just called big earrings. We would get these huge earrings to go with our big hair and wear them with pride. Back then, they were much heavier also. They were so heavy in fact, many of us stretched out our ear lobes! I was going to have mine reconstructed, but insurance does not cover it so instead I got them pierced a little higher to wear my earrings in that hole instead.

I remember my mom and I going to this store in Anniston called Katrina. She was a costume jewelry designer who lived in Anniston, Alabama and had a store and her studio there. She sold to the major department stores and we would go in to here store and go crazy. She had these fantastic sales and then as a more minimal look in jewelry seemed to sprout up, her business declined and she went out of business. Maybe she should rethink that now!!! But that was so much fun, because people from all around would come just to her store and scour through her fun looks.

Actually, they are killing it with statement necklaces also, but I will reserve that for a later post. I feel like I have bought so many cool earring styles from them lately and that every time they have new arrivals, there are more to choose from.
